10-year-old Addison was in the hospital when one of her doctors and her mom, Tammy, decided to refer Addison to Make-A-Wish. Tammy had heard about Make-A-Wish from a couple of Addison’s friends but was hesitant to refer her. In the fall of 2017, Tammy decided it was time, “Addison deserved some happiness.” Little did Tammy know how much happiness Addison’s wish would not only bring Addison, but the whole family as well.
Addison wished for a screened in adaptive gazebo so she could enjoy the outdoors while still having the comforts of the inside, “We have a really nice yard, yet nobody goes outside” said Addison’s mom. They wanted to create a space where the family could be together and build lasting memories in the years to come. In typical Make-A-Wish fashion, they pulled out all the stops; Equipped with a ramp for easy access and a swing, the gazebo is a backyard paradise.
With help from Mainely Turf and Greenery, the land was cleared, and the gazebo was completed at the end of the summer. Friends, family, nurses, and doctors gathered for the ultimate wish reveal where the spotlight was all on Addison. “It was a big life moment for her. It meant a lot to us. One of those pinnacles in life that we will always remember” said Tammy. Addison’s Wish Granters revealed a beautiful hand painted sign, “Addison’s Atrium” to welcome all visitors to the gazebo.
The whole family can’t wait to enjoy “Addison’s Atrium” all summer long for many years to come.
