Wish child Curtis Gibson, 17, of Wells went on a ski trip to Colorado with his family for his wish.
Curtis and his family have been skiing together in New England for years. Curtis made this wish because he wanted to experience a different terrain and stay in lodging that has trail access directly from the front door.
Make-A-Wish regularly aims to extend the joy of the wish experience and planned a wish celebration party for Curtis and his family at Sea Coast Fun Park in Windham the week before they left for Colorado. The family practiced their snow tubing skills for Vail and received cake and a GoPro camera from Make-A-Wish for their trip west.
"Thank you Make-A-Wish for a wonderful trip to Vail," said Curtis's mom, Sandy. "After a long stressful year, it was great spending our time together on this trip. There were no distraction, just us. It was wonderful!"
On many runs during that warm weather, Curtis went down the slopes in his shorts and t-shirt.
"It was amazing for us to see him so happy and doing what he loves," said Sandy. "And to be able to do it in Vail. Wow! We are so grateful for Make A Wish. This wish fit Curtis to a tee. They can be stars for a day or more. It will make them forget all the hard times they have been through or still going through."
Make-A-Wish Maine is grateful for support from Portland Radio Group (Curtis’s Adopt-A-Wish sponsors), Wish Granter volunteers Carolyn Dupre and Jane Morris, Portland Limousine, Make-A-Wish Colorado, Kittery Trading Post, Thalassa Raasch, and Seacoast Fun Park.
