Ashlynn goes to a luau, sits on the beach, floats down a river pool and more while she enjoys her wish to go to Hawaii.
Ashlynn, 10, of Portland lives with pulmonary atresia and her wish was to go to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii. Ashlynn is full of energy and wanted to get the most out of her trip – she took full advantage of the beach, resort, and ocean – she even went surfing! But, her favorite thing was to float down the “river” at the resort and team with her sister to splash their mom and nana.
“Knowing what Ashlynn has been through with her health and what she will have to face in the future, I am so thankful that Make-A-Wish and James were able to make her dream come true,” said Ashlynn’s Mom, Kristen. “To me, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I would never have been able to give her. From the moment we stepped into the limo to go to the airport, I could feel the excitement all around me. My Mom, Ashlynn, Anna and I had all we could do to contain ourselves.”
Ashlynn felt her wish was everything she had hoped it would be and more. “Way, way more,” said Ashlynn. “It was a wicked awesome trip!”
Ashlynn expressed gratitude to Make-A-Wish and her Wish Maker James Orrigo (a senior at James Madison University) who donated enough money to grant Ashlynn’s wish ($6,000).
James raised funds through his Lad in a Battle music and movement - check out his music on youtube or facebook.
“What started as a personal goal to grant one wish left an imprint on everyone that has helped me along the way,” said James. “It is AWESOME. Where/when else are you able to have an opportunity to grant someone’s dream to come true!?”
Ashlynn enjoyed meeting Mickey, Minnie & Goofy because they made her laugh. She also went to a Luau, learned how to hula dance and make Hawaiian crafts.
