Right before I departed for a two week road trip down to Savannah with my best friend, Make-A-Wish Maine celebrated our annual Fantasy Auction. This event was spectacular! Not only was it the first live auction I had been to, but it also had a great theme: Kentucky Derby. With women in fabulous hats and a few horses on site, it was a memorable and unique night in Falmouth! I only wish I could wear my derby hat more often.
Perhaps the most touching and memorable moment of the evening was when Wish Kid Carter’s dad Mark took the stage to sing the song he wrote for his son. There didn’t seem to be a dry eye in the house with this touching tribute to his son, who suffers heart disease. Carter had his wish a couple of years ago to go to Disney and he and his mom were both at the event to hear his dad play. If you would like to hear the beautiful song, find it on the Make-A-Wish Maine Favorites page of our YouTube channel! In only a few weeks, the song has over 250,000 views. Incredible!
The Hope, Strength and Joy Derby raised $120,000, which is enough to grant 20 wishes to Maine children facing life-threatening medical conditions. This is a wonderful accomplishment for just one evening and a huge thank you goes out to all those who attended and volunteered at the event! We truly couldn't have done it without you and so appreciate your support.
I am now getting back into the swing of things after my trip and slowly but surely reducing the pile of paperwork on my desk! It was a great two weeks away from the office full of sunshine, fascinating sights, and southern cuisine, but I am happy to be home again.
Here's me in the National Wildlife Reserve in Savannah, GA.
