We love to plan a great visit for these special kids and families and, quite frankly, we enjoying showing others what an amazing state we have to live in! Selfishly, I love when we have a wish assist come to Maine because I get to have a big part in planning their trip here.
Over the winter we had a few wish kids come to Maine for snow wishes. Snow in Maine is something we all take for granted,
and often times are annoyed with, yet it has a much greater meaning when you think of a child having their one wish be to see snow for the first time! This year, we are also lucky to welcome a few wish families to Maine during the summer months (arguably the best time of year to be in Maine!)
This week, 4-year-old Payton from Nebraska joined us for his wish to ride a train and go fishing with his grandpa. Payton and his family will spend the week in and around Portland.
On Monday, Payton got his wish! Thanks to Narrow Gauge Railway and Museum, Payton got to ride a choo-choo train, ring the bell, and explore the train museum. The smile on Payton’s face captures the joy of a wish.
After the train, Payton spent the afternoon at the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine. Not only is this a fun museum for any child, but Payton loves whales and the Museum has a great whale exhibit!
Other highlights of Payton’s trip include a little pizza party compliments of OTTO pizza, deep-sea fishing trip complete with lobstering and a train ride to Boston to visit the New England Aquarium! We hope Payton has a great time with his family in Maine! Check out a video from Payton’s trip or see more train photos on our facebook page.
Make-A-Wish Maine is grateful to the following people and businesses for making this special wish come true: Residence Inn Marriott, Avis, Barbara McDonald, Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine, C Bridge Charters, Amtrak Downeaster, OTTO Pizza and the New England Aquarium.
