This summer, 17 year old Allison of Berwick traveled to New York City for her wish. She experienced all that is great about NYC, including a trip to both the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, a fabulous room at Hilton Times Square right in the heart of the city and a backstage tour of Wicked on Broadway.
After the wish, Allison sent us a particularly well said note about how this wish affected her:
“When I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last December, it felt like my whole life came to a screeching halt. I had been the lead in my school musical, and avidly involved in my schools music and theatre programs, but once the cancer took over all of that was put on hold. When I was introduced to the Make-A-Wish program, and began to develop my wish alongside my wish granters, it was like someone had cleared the road for me, just when I had felt so stuck. For months I looked forward to my trip to New York City, and when I got there I felt like I had something to move towards again. I toured the city I dream of living in and, my favorite part of the trip, got to see Wicked at the gorgeous Gershwin Theatre! The entire trip took my mind off of the recent past, and got me focused on my future, my long-term dreams. I am so thankful to Make-A-Wish for giving me that opportunity.”
Such wisdom from Allison! We were so happy to be a part of this special wish.
