Annie, 12, of Scarborough lives with Rett Syndrome. Her condition present her with many challenges, but there was no mistaking the happiness she felt when she saw her bedroom makeover wish come true.

“Annie spends so much time in her room so her parents wanted a bright, happy place for her,” said volunteer Wish Granter Linda Jackson-Phillips. The room had originally been her brothers and wasn’t the cheerful, feminine space they knew Annie would enjoy.

“We want a pretty, bright, fun room for her,” said Annie’s Mom, Kate. “She has been through so much. She deserves something wonderful."

The new room features a floral bedspread, pink polka-dot rug, hearts, a crystal chandelier, a custom purple storage shelf, a beautifully organized pink and purple closet space, a hardwood floor, a giant pink bean bag, framed family photographs, wispy white curtains and more. One small object in the room made a particularly joyful impact on Annie: a snow globe from Things Remembered that played music. “Her face lit up when I shook it and played the music,” said Linda.

The Yogibo bean bag is especially helpful because it gives Annie a safe, supported place to sit other than her wheelchair or bed. "She loves lounging on it and looking at all the pictures," said Linda "It  also gives her a great place to watch movies on her new tv!"

"How beautiful!” said Kate as she walked into her daughter’s new bedroom for the first time. “I promised myself I wouldn't cry but look at this," she said with happy tears in her eyes.

When volunteers left the family to enjoy the room, Annie was snuggled in her bed with her sister Bridie and was looking at everything in the room with a big smile on her face.

Everyone in the family loves Annie's room - especially Annie! ”
