Words of Wishdom: A Blog

Wine and Dine Recap

Wine&Dine_480x640
The first week of September, we had an event unlike any other! Celebrity chef Michele Ragussis hosted our Wine & Dine event at her restaurant, The Pearl.

You may remember Chef Ragussis as a finalist on Season 8 of Food Network Star or her recent appearances on NBC’s Food Fight. She was joined by three other chefs from her season of Food Network Star: Martie Duncan, Linkie Marais, and Nikki Martin.

At the event, Michele and the other chefs each cooked up some favorite recipes for our guests to sample. The special guest of the night was wish kid Zach, who served as Michele’s sous chef for the evening. Zach was granted his wish earlier this year - a wish to have his own set of marching drums. Zach and his mom were kind enough to offer us a Q&A after the event:

What was the best part of your Make-A-Wish experience?

The best part of the wish experience was the distraction that it gave us as a family, and Zach specifically. For Zach, he said (obviously) getting his drums, but the anticipation of getting those drums was awesome. Also, the wish granters did such a good job of "surprising" him. For example, the drums were not ready for his wish party, and yet there were things there for him (electronic drums, a sweatshirt, a DVD... all themed like his wish). Every step along the way they made him feel special.

Zach looked like a pro up there! Overall, what was the highlight of being the sous chef to the stars at our Wine & Dine event?

For us, it was seeing him up there interacting with Chef Ragussis and having such a good time. Like you said (and I am biased) he is very good in front of a crowd! He genuinely was having a great time and all of the ladies seemed to take a liking to him. For him, it was the chance to meet these people and cook with Michele. He had a great time working with Michele on her dish.

What was your favorite food served that night?

For all three of us it was the dessert!! Zach thought watching the ladies work in the kitchen was really cool. I think he was able to grab a few little tidbits from being able to hang out in the kitchen.

Thanks to Zach and his family for joining us at the event.

Speaking of recipes, we know everyone wants the recipes from this special night! Click here to learn the recipes and be able to cook some of these amazing meals at home.

A special thanks to Zach, his family, Chefs Michele Ragussis, Martie Duncan, Linkie Marais, and Nikki Martin, and Allagash for supporting this special event.
