PORTLAND, ME – October 29, 2013 – During the holiday season, VIP Tires and Service, New England’s leading tire dealer and automotive service provider, will hold their sixth annual Make-A-Wish® campaign.
VIP will kick off their fundraiser on November 1 and it will run through the end of the year. Each customer who donates to Make-A-Wish will be given a star from VIP as a way to say thank you. This campaign not only raises critical funds, but also awareness of the tremendous work being done by Make-A-Wish in local communities.

In 2012, every VIP store participated in this program that promotes donations to Make-A-Wish, and the company was able to donate over $36,000, enough to grant wishes to six Make-A-Wish children.

“Partnering with VIP gives everyone the chance to donate as little or as much as they can to help a child living in their own state,” said Tom Peaco, Executive Director of Make-A-Wish Maine. “We are grateful and thrilled that, this year, VIP will be matching each and every dollar donated by customers to grant even more wishes.”

VIP Tires and Service has partnered with Make-A-Wish to raise more than $200,000 over the past five years. These funds have helped to grant 33 wishes to deserving children with life-threatening medical conditions in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Wishes range from trips to Walt Disney World® to computer gaming systems, playhouses, dinosaur digs and more. Last year, Alice, 4, of Portland Maine was one child whose wish was granted thanks to the funds donated by VIP customers. Alice went to Walt Disney World with her family after going through six rounds of chemotherapy, two surgeries, radiation, antibody and immunotherapy.

“The wish experience is not an isolated incidence,” said Peaco. “It creates an uplifting impact that stays with not only the wish child and family but also volunteers, donors and anyone else who made the wish possible.”
“VIP Tires and Service is honored to be involved once again with Make-A-Wish and the wishes that they help grant to these amazing children,” said John Quirk, President and CEO of VIP Tires and Service. “I am personally dedicated to making sure each dollar is matched for an even greater impact on the important mission delivered by this organization.”

Upcoming wishes include: Jayden, 8, of York who wishes to meet his favorite NFL player; Nolan, 6, of Scarborough who wishes to go to Walt Disney World, Drew, 14, of Hampden who wishes to go on a Hawaiian cruise; and Brandon, 17, of Addison who wishes for an ATV.

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH®
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Maine Chapter of Make-A-Wish opened in 1992. As of October 2013, we have granted over 1115 wishes. This coming year, the organization expects to grant the greatest wish of over 70 seriously ill Maine children, which is an average of one wish every five days. The average cost of a wish is $6,000. All money raised in Maine stays in Maine. Of the money donated, 77% goes towards program expenses (granting wishes), which is 12% more than the minimum required of non-profits by the Better Business Bureau. All wish expenses are fully covered by Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish Maine is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and all contributions are tax deductible. The Maine chapter has over 150 volunteers statewide, and a staff of six. Our office is located at 477 Congress Street, Suite M1, in Portland. Every year, Make-A-Wish Maine uses an average of 9 million airline miles to send families on their wish trips. These miles are paid at full price and we do not receive discounts on luggage fees, in-flight meals, etc.

The cost of these 9 million miles is approximately $63,000.

Many traveling wish kids step onto the jetway because of generous donors who give miles to Make-A-Wish.
